Me

My name is Roberto Duran, but everyone knows me by Byrdo.  I am a freelancer and have a Bachelors of Fine Arts from NMSU along with the talents and experience to make me quite adept in several fields.  Art has been a passion for my entire life and in most ways it actually is my life.  Whether I’m lost in thought or lost in paint the desire to create things has always filled a strange void within.

I realize that everyone may not like what they see or read but I trust that most people out there are open minded.  Many of my drawings/paintings are figurative because I’ve always been interested in the expressive elements of the form.  Currently my work is focused more around surrealism and abstraction with a mesh of previous detours.  I’ve always been attracted to the notion of the possibility in things.  This view has led me to become more of a creative thinker and problem solver which has aided me greatly throughout my career.  I also have an aptitude for quickly mastering technology and as a result these various tools are powerful allies.

My activities are very broad and quite random but some of the things I enjoy are writing, music, hacking, bmx, digital graphics, gaming, cooking, computers, along with anything or anyone I find intriguing. I’m often a loner and choose to spend the majority of my time further dedicating myself to my creations.  I have a lot of respect for things that are designed or fabricated by traditional means at a high level. In an era where everything is mass produced and copied its hard to hold onto something original so I can really appreciate the few that continue to impress by raising the bar regardless of the genre. For the most part I usually keep my personal life private.  I often find that I don’t have enough time in my days to do everything I want, so I am often overloaded with various simultaneous projects, but that’s just life I suppose.
